Basic Texas Hold'Em Rules

The number one poker game that is played on the net is Texas Holdem. Most poker tournaments will be Holdem Tourneys since they attract the most players. We list the basic rules and betting rounds of the game for your convenience.

  1. Before the cards are dealt the 2 players immediately left of the Dealer Button place a Big Blind and Small Blind in the pot to start the game.

  2. All players are dealt 2 face-down (pocket) cards. The 'Pre-Flop' betting round begins with the player left of the Big Blind folding (leaving), calling (matching the size of the Big Blind) or raising (depending on the limit of the game he will raise the bet).

  3. When the first betting round is over the Dealer turns over (or deals) 3 Flop cards on the table. The Flop cards are community cards that can be used by all players. The second round of betting starts with the player closest to the left of the button, and still in the hand. A player may now check (not bet or fold) or bet if there has been no betting in front of them. If there has been betting and/or raising in front of them, they may Call, Raise, or Fold. This round is called 'The Flop'.

  4. Next round of betting is 'The Turn'. It starts after the Dealer has turned over the 4th community card (the turn card).

  5. After the last community card (the river card) has been turned over 'The River' betting round starts. This is the final betting round.

  6. In the 'Showdown' all remaining players turn over their cards and the best poker hand (5 cards) chosen from the players 2 cards and the 5 community cards wins. If at any point during the hand, one player makes a bet that all others decline to call, the hand is over immediately, and the player who made the final wager takes the pot without the need to show his cards.

League Scoring System

We have tried to make the scoring system as simple as possible while making it as competitive as possible for every member of the league.

The points system is as follows:

The amount of points available per game will depend on the amount of players in each game for this example we will assume there is twenty (20) players. The points will scale down from the winner to the first person that busted out, therefore the winner will receive 20 points the runner up 19 and so forth. However, there will be extra points available for each player that gets into the final 8 players (The Top Table) The scale of these extra points is;

1 st + 40 points
2 nd +30 points
3 rd + 25 points
4 th + 20 points
5 th +16 points
6 th +12 points
7 th + 8 points
8 th + 4 points
9th + 2 points
10th + 1 Point

Therefore the results of a 20 player game would be as follows:

1 st 20 + 40 = 60
2 nd 19 + 30 = 49
3 rd 18 + 25 = 43
4 th 17 + 20 = 37
5 th 16 +16 = 32
6 th 15 +12 = 27
7 th 14 + 8 = 22
8 th 13 + 4 = 17
9 th 12 + 2 = 14
10 th 11 + 1 = 12
11 th = 10
12 th = 9
13 th = 8
14 th = 7
15 th = 6
16 th = 5
17 th = 4
18 th = 3
19 th = 2
20 th = 1
